Bates Motel, Sir Ivor

With reflection of the 2026 Kentucky Derby contenders came this fair hunch for Golden Tempo. Golden Tempo ran an exceptional race. His victory was well deserved.

The overview was because of Bates Motel, sired by Sir Ivor, with reference post – Butterfing (ARG), where Bates Motel is also 2nd dam sire of US champion sire Curlin.

Sir Ivor – a sire of outstanding fillies namely Lady Capulet (winner of Irish 1,000 Guineas on her racecourse debut. His colts Bates Motel (USA) – Sir Tristram (IRE) great Broodmare sire, as is, his superior stayer sire Zabeel (NZ)
Absolute champion sire, 45 G1 winners of 140 SWs
Leading Sire in Australia 6 times 🏆
A leading sire in New Zealand

Golden Tempo @ 5×5 Sir Ivor by Sir Gaylord dam Somethingroyal. Should any aspire for the extraordinary horse, examine the dynamic blue-hen Somethingroyal, as sired by toughness, stamina in Princequillo. Naturally, and with Secretariat, to duplicate Somethingroyal 4x, these duplications furthering 10x Princequillo. Noting male-line, Smart Strike (CAN) is of the Princequillo distaff ex-4th dam, as is Quiet American (USA) by Fappiano, the dam-sire of Bernardini (USA), dam sire Golden Tempo. Golden Tempo Horse Pedigree

Sir Ivor – The Race calls – “Sir Ivor is well off the pace”…does the run sound familiar??

Princequillo’s career began in the same way as his sire’s, in that he was foaled in England, exported to America and began in humble surroundings and in his case claiming races. However, Princequillo progressed, claiming America’s two major stamina tests, the Saratoga Cup and Jockey Club Gold Cup, among his 12 wins, though they seemed to count for little when he retired to stud at the lowly fee of $250.00 and received only 17 visitors in his first season. When he was moved to Mr Bull Hancock he received mares of much better quality. Princequillo’s role as broodmare sire struck gold when his mares went mated with Nasrullah. (post – The First Principle – Princequillo)

Golden Tempo’s dam Carrumba reminds her strong phenotype is akin to Mahmoud bones.

Mahmoud by Blenheim by Blandford: the record breaking Derby winner and great sire in America who stamped his conformation – Almahmoud (Northern Dancer) – Mahmoudess (Promised Land) – Mr Trouble (Sir Ivor) – Boldness (Quiet American) – Ghazi (Lady Capulet)

Teddy male line >>>> Promised Land 6×7 – @Wise Exchange & Spectacular Bid. To further note: Promised Land has 5th dam Spearmint by Carbine by Musket. Nearco has 2nd dam Catnip by Spearmint by Carbine by Musket. Northern Dancer’s 5th dam by Chicle by Spearmint by Carbine by Musket.

It highlights the ‘unspoken stayer geno’ much-distinguished sire-line to Musket, the antipodean sire of many a Melbourne Cup winner and of V.R.C. Derby’s. He left remarkable horses – Necklace, Krupp, Trenton, Fullisade, Fusilier, Thunderbolt and Nordenfeldt. And then one month before his death was the greatest of all, Carbine (1885).

Nijinsky – 6x Musket (Trenton & Carbine + 5×7 Plucky Leige (a Teddy/Spearmint cross). (post – when transforming into, Nijinsky)

Musket as a three year old, he ran nine times, winning seven races, being second once and unplaced once. A number of these races were over two miles. At Ascot he carried 8st 12lb to victory in the Ascot Stakes, his weight being the highest ever borne successfully then by any horse in that race. As a four year old he ran twice, winning the Midland Counties Handicap, two mile and running second to Rosicrucian in the Alexandra Plate, three miles. He was then retired to stud but during the six years his services were offered to English breeders but was not in popular demand. The Waikato Agricultural Company (New Zealand) sent Mr Thomas Russell to England to look for a sire for coach and utility horses. On the death of Lord Peel, Musket was auctioned at Enfield and was secured by Mr Russell for 520 guineas. The will of Lord Glasgow however provided that none of his horses should be sold, so this obstacle was overcome by selling a lease of Musket for 99 years. Two years afterwards Musket’s son Petronel won the Two Thousand Guineas and English breeders began to realize that they had been too hasty to condemn one of the stoutest-hearted and best stayers of any age or country.

Desert Flower, Sir Gaylord, SomethingRoyal

Godolphin bred filly Desert Flower is a G1 winner at 2 and 3 years old. She was placed 3rd to winner, Minnie Hauk (Frankel) https://www.racinginsider.com/racing-news/epsom-oaks-2025-result-and-replay-20250606-0005/

https://www.pedigreequery.com/desert+flower19

Desert Flower distaff goes famous to Family 2S, her 6th dam is Blueblood hen Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat & Sir Gaylord. She (Somethingroyal) dam of Swansea (Turn-To), been 5th dam.

Desert Flower pedigree exposes >> 5x Somethingroyal thru 4x Sir Gaylord & Swansea. https://www.pedigreequery.com/swansea

Tesio suggests the steel is tempered a metaphor between tempered steel and his breeding philosophy. Tesio believed in refining bloodlines through careful selection, much like how steel is tempered to enhance its strength and resilience.

It is thoughtfully observed profiles surely must be with & dependent to ‘G’ chromosome availability, where if or should speed aptitude go dependent on the Haplotype category. Its ‘mix’ to profiles is sourced to evolutionary bred, thus hybrid mix of old and new blood as introduced in certain development stages.

This is of exercise never simple & of course inexact science of pedigree variability -nevertheless, it seems Cyllene lineage(s) appear to be a nucleus compelling. ie family 9.

To Desert Flower the 9×7 Ribot re-echoes 7x Cyllene & his (Ribot) 16x Hermit, 11x Bend Or (Clemence factor +) impacts the pedigree >> haplo/geno branches as shown below. Ribot >> @Cyllene thru (Cicero, Seraphine, Cylgad, Polymelus, Cyclamen, Maid of the Mist) with Hermit 16x is principle.

Hermit, a chestnut stood at 15.2 hands. https://www.americanclassicpedigrees.com/hermit-gb.html

@ Pedigree to Haplotype may confuse the traditional view. A simplistic modis operandi to scope > refining carriers 9-b,9-e,9-f, 9-g, 9-h) + 2-n thence therein comes upon Dubawi distaff + Galileo + Night of Thunder distaff thru Teddy daughter Tivoli, to sire factors. (Also observe to Desert Flower dam/@distaff, Buckpasser is of the Menow > Cyllene male line – review Cyllene with Teddy to 4th dam @https://www.pedigreequery.com/buck+the+tide. (sidenote – Bull Lea is a refined example 9f/2n) – an immense strain to any pedigree)

Taking branches upon, to Cyllene, Teddy, Bay Ronald, Selene far back as Hermit – this background band of chromosomes is perhaps playing to genetics ‘transposing’ enabling the superior type. Transposition genetics, also known as transposition or transposition biology, is the study of the movement of transposable elements (TEs), which are also called “jumping genes” or “mobile genetic elements”. TEs are DNA sequences that can move from one location to another within a genome, a process that can lead to mutations, genome rearrangements, and influence gene expression. They ‘back’ up, in other words.

Having almost completed this post… yet another pedigree on the racing calelndar displayed 5×6 Sir Gaylord, Family 2S, Somethingroyal. https://www.pedigreequery.com/nitrogen9 by Medaglia D’Oro. What these geno/pheno’s capture remains long impacting..

Almond Eye (JPN) by Lord Kanaloa (JPN) ex- Fusaichi Pandora (JPN) by Sunday Silence

2018 Japanese Fillies Triple Crown Winner

2018 Japan Cup – world record of 2400 metres 2.20.6

For champions to succeed, the key factors ability, temperament, adaptability to race from any position finds the magic.

Because of superior champions we can study, analyse, absorb; take view how the best genotype patterns emerge. Unsurprisingly, matriarch mares establish the order upon each pedigree.

Is it the chicken or the egg….it is all, how sire and broodmare fuse traits.

A genetic trail, every progression from familial traits synergetic, revive a genus essence, bloodlines within veins.

The Almond Eye pedigree is simply, intelligent & well-crafted breeding.

Plainly, strains are genetic machinery and they will unify from both parentages to dominate progeny’s individuality.

Sire of Almond Eye, Lord Kanaloa from the tap-root family 2-s,  he a descendant of the same dam family SomethingRoyal (USA) – Secretariat’s dam.

It highlights, with TBL intrigue, to see two strains carriage upon Lord Kanaloa’s dam Lady Blossom. The brilliance is bred, distinguishable.

Within pedigree, the maternal zone (as above) penetrates deep.

The sire, Lord Kanaloa, also is the son. Though only two SomethingRoyal (USA) strains are present, it is working the Nasrullah/Princequillo cross. If we wish to ‘dig’ further back the global thoroughbred is clearly recognizable from truest old bloods.

Infusing, enter the exciting, temperamental blood of Nureyev – 5sx3d. Again, the maternal zone is key, penetrative, shaping classic. His daughter Miesque – an Inductee Hall of Fame, champion filly/mare at 2,3,4 in France, England and America.

img_20181207_074050-011737286569.jpeg

Miesque….@ Churchill Downs

The Nureyev pedigree ‘smacks’ out the elite blood befitting to the best, and only the best, as the breeding was then.

A son of Northern Dancer, it is the Olympia genes through Forli, Ribot, Princequillo, Count Fleet and French sire Sanctus eternally held. *(n.b. below)

To Nureyev’s other daughter unraced, purchased as yearling and exported to Japan – bloodstock/broodmare as destiny fulfils, the grand dam to Almond Eye.

A, Nureyev daughter, she the familial blood & line, with tap-root to female family 8-f: Best In Show (USA) maternal blue-hen, Try My Best. The maternal family is well regarded & known for producing superior sires.

(think as example) Redoute’s Choice (AUS), siring son of Danehill. Purchase a daughter of this maternal family, and one would be rolling in bloodstock clover.

Female family 8-f: its genetic rhythms upon the genus-type within.

Recall affiliating characters like Raise a Native (USA), sire of Mr Prospector & to those of Blue Larkspur/Black Servant as carried in sire, Halo – sire of Sunday Silence one may understand the particular XX trait preserves, carries, ties to the ancestral dam.

Look again to the 3rd dam of Almond Eye, her sire Buckpasser also from veins of Blue Larkspur. And in particular, where exactly TBL likes to have-it (the trait) scored to the pedigree.

Why?

Because it is the most ‘direct’ / specific infusion upgrade to the dam’s maternal breeding.

*(side-note: find Buckpasser paternal to the infusion of Bull Dog (FR): Sanctus (FR) as above – same maternal family belonging to Plucky Liege (GB).

Though of the two variant 8-f branches, there still remains a genus commonality, long-back. Check – Remembrancer Mare (1807)

When the genetic stage is set, with main prop genetics, we shall view structure within.

The Almond Eye pedigree is classic built/bred.

Understand any of these principles and one should find themselves success.
