A racing individual he gallops fierce – flirts to competition. img_20200321_162143-01487311196.jpeg

He’s Waldgeist by Galileo from Waldlerche (GB) ex- Monsun.

Notably, ‘the-One’ defeating the noblest mare, Enable (Nathaniel) to win the 2019 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. He defeated many of the elite’s like Japan (Galileo).

Waldgeist the female family 5-H  deemed the ‘W’ family. (n.b. 5-H is not to be confused to Special/Thong/Simon Shoes 5H family) ‘

Finest European breeding as is Waldgeist’s sire Galileo, as was his sire the great Sadlers Wells, & Waldgeist has too that familiar ‘depth’.

img_20200321_161216-011885142449.jpeg

Through his maternal genetics: German quality cometh where he Impresses a ‘pattern-type’ re-emergence, a classic genotype to smarten any mare. He’s built not only upon a stamina/stayer capacity, but with propensity to correctly Breed.

The broodmare sire offers the up-grade.

Pin-point mighty Monsun – his pedigree in-bred via, maternal only →Hyperion (Gainsborough) but emphasis particularly sourced across, both to son and daughter of  dam Kaiserwurde (f.f. 5h) & sire, Nebelwerfer. Kaiserwurde is a German-brand: synonymous to breeding German classic-type winning horses.

The Monsun’s – Schiaparelli (German Derby winner), Manduro (Best 2007 World Horse Rankings), Stacelita (2006 Eclipse champion Turf Female), Shirocco (2005 German Horse of the Year), Novellist (2013 German Horse of the Year, Getaway, Vadamos …..

Monsun’s have acquired ‘reputation’ in Australia – Melbourne cup winners Protectionist, Fiorente and Almandin.

Back with Galileo. Galileo’s prince-son Frankel may carry the ‘G’ crown where $analysis$ determined Galileo/Danehill had nick magic.

I however, never went convinced. Each to their own but the catalyst to Galileo across grand-dam, Rainbow Lake genetics, was a truer ‘bulls-eye’. Not only does Rainbow Lake amass 52x St Simon but another Important strain/influences the ‘building’.

⇒ 3rd dam sire Persian Gulf by Bahram (Blandford). Stage Door Johnny 2nd dam sire             Calddarium by Brantome (Blandford). Rainbow Quest 4th dam sire His Grace     (Blandford) & Blushing Groom 3rd dam sire Umidar (Blandford)

Due to ideal breeding intelligence, Shadai Farm (Japan) perhaps also ‘saw’ influences much stronger. They bred a Monsun mare to Frankel & it produced their champion 2 year & 3 year old G1 winning filly and she also was Frankel’s 1st G.1 winner by the name of Soul Stirring (JPN).

“as breeding does, time always tells”

A winged electric – Pinatubo again confirmed to where n’ whom the individual Blandford, might be decidedly viewed. The firm, Classic of Classic Influence.

 *Blandford*

“though forgotten, they come back”

His steady influences within bloodlines, the Determination(s) of how a family ‘trait’ influences pedigrees, are all necessary to formulate How, an Individual is Bred, to its Strength.

Considerations: how it is rightly reinforced, directed,  and carried back into the pedigree.

Thus seek the layout which has both ancestral foundation & layer-built bloodlines.

Waldgeist

Galileo – 36X St Simon & seek where the Blandford influences come maternally Direct (via Urban Sea) via Expresso →Babylon→Bahram→Blandford. To →Tantieme, grand-dam La Furka by Blandford.

Galileo by Sadlers Wells, maternal family ⇒ a Blandford daughter, Dalmary

BMS – Monsun (descendant male line of Bahram, by Blandford). His 2nd dam sire Tiepoletto →Blue Skies (Blandford). Monsun’s dam Mosella →Reliance→Tantieme from La Furka by Blandford. Monsun inbred to noted german broodmare Kaiseradler f.f.5-h. Monsun – carries 52X, St Simon

      – Darshaan (inbred to Umidar/Blandford)

Acatenango – 46x St Simon (n.b. Acatenango – the BMS  of Dalicia, producer of Animal Kingdom (USA)

– Walderche inbred to Surumu →Birkhahn→Alchimist these are subtle but also of key influences to Galileo, Alchimist 6dx6d – Alchimist was slaughtered for food when the Russians swept into Germany at the end of WWII.

birkhahn

Birkhahn –  awkwardly ‘wrong place, wrong time’ post WWII, where English & French breeders were adverse to anything of German blood.

img_20200327_102403_1-0117842368.jpeg

Clearly, Waldgeist is absolute –  where his racing record for G1 performance, particularly up to 5 years top-level racing is an achievement benchmark – the proven soundness, quality durable.

    – to exploit his dam’s German bloodlines, he is not only a classic-breeder Individual and assuredly, a faultless one.

It is always interesting to view the ‘collective’ evolutionary growth of the thoroughbred, the stratum across, through to the contemporary & present-day lines. Here one may understand what ‘contribution’ really means & importantly where it comes from to how, Q for quality stays.

Peter Willett (bloodstock author, 1981) – “West German breeding has been able to make a contribution to the evolution of the Classic racehorse in the quarter of a century as a result of special circumstances and the unique opportunity which (they) have presented for effective outcrossing”.

Ross du Bourg – Australian bloodstock writer ” The decision to honour Blandford, by placing him above Hyperion at the top of the stamina ladder, is a prime example of the gradual metamorphosis.…..By 1990 the time was ripe to unite all the varying effective branches of Blandford, such as Donatello II, Bahram, Brantome, and Midstream. under the one, all-enveloping banner – the mighty Blandford himself!

(on German bloodstock, Julian Bedford, racing journalist, 1989 ) …strength in stamina made for weakness in the market. Too much stamina scared away commercial breeders and trainers who looked for a sharper type of horse.

TBL comments “hopefully breeders/trainers/syndication interests might understand long-term assets are a dividend rewarded”

‘winners run a different race’

Screen excellence & the exercise is not to go by racing sires, mares, individuals as to discover HOW  dynamics work, stay on like a wave patterns circulating through generational alike proximity. spiralIn a nutshell, its genotype patterns of ‘workability’. Thus….

quoted & credited to Ross du Bourgs book The New Zealand & Australian Thoroughbred: upon a study & essay by Thomas and Donald Lesh as published in the British Racehorse 1968

…therefore that heterosis or hybrid vigour is not the crucial factor in superior racecourse performance.

Homozygotes and heterozygotes are fundamental concepts in the science of genetics and the practice of breeding. Defined at their simplest, a homozygous individual has genes that are alike, while a heterozygous individual has genes that are unlike. The Leshes found that the homozygous individual could produced noticeably more enzymes.

Thus the homozygous individual would seem to have a more efficient metabolism, having, for instance, greater energy resources or quicker recovery from fatigue; In short, the Leshes conclude ‘ the potential to perform with greater ease than the ordinary horse and to be better able to profit  from a training regimen.

Beautiful.

For the moment forget speed, forget stamina and let’s just say I want to apply a solid genetic framework which reflects the best possible specimen called a thoroughbred.

Our subject Masar, a pedigree deeply paralleled with Galileo, Sea the Stars (Cape Cross) but namely the dam’s line of Urban Sea (USA) from formerly German-bred, Anatevka – the female family 9h.

German breeding (its history) forced a heavy use of the female family 9h & if you look to Anatevka’s daughter Allegretta (GB) you shall see her numerous strains of this 9h family back-sired by Alchimest (GER).

Similar outcrossing procedures involving blends of typical German strains with strains drawn fro the main stream of European thoroughbred evolution have proved their worth as sources of Classic quality on numerous occasions. Peter Willett, The Classic Racehorse

The golden key turning the density as female strains, influences, are beautifully set.

It should now, be no secret, where Galileo strikes well or equally with his sires female family ‘Special” USA , the female family 5-h given to Sadlers Wells.

    – prior written Thrust, goes the Galileo engine this excerpt:

GALILEO, SEA THE STARS, Epsom Derby winner MASAR

Many articles on these mighty horses take obvious bits of information without penetrating particular peculiarities which greatly seam the genetics. The dam’s family ‘connections’ which keeps the knitting together. Exceptional ‘dam’ strain (family 9-h)intertwines another exceptional ‘dam’ strain (5-h), the most potent proliferating thoroughbred strains in existence where it is also to gauge their genetic prowess on the constant evolutionary move of the thoroughbred.

Now…welcome (if following other pedigrees) Lorenzaccio (GB) , Nureyev, Val-de-Loir or, other generation individuals of Special and the 5h, frame-work becomes more so obvious.

Simply they all follow the ancestress Simon Shoes (GB). Yes, the female family 5h stages globally Derby winning families.

The 9h and the 5h family patterns X and Y – strains made in heaven.

Heavenly horses ? Long before thoroughbred ancestry stud book  recordings THE THOROUGHBRED FRAMEWORK IMMORTALITY began to take shape.

…one dominant (quality) is defined. The one genus, is above the rest.

No-kidding…

How to put this… horses because of blood group complexity, will come irregular and since our TBL blog is biased towards best of the best superior performers, a bare few equine monsters tier above everything else.

They were & are the likes of St. Simon, Princequillo grand-daddy siring i.e. Prince Rose, Man O’ War

Why, why, why?

To the deep roots of the magnificence, the quality thoroughbred where as much formulated by trade, war, commerce and travel via the Ottoman empire.

The horse was the most important means of travel (and battle) among the Turkish tribes of Central Asia for millennia. They were bred for speed, strength, calmness and intelligence, among the attributes required at various times. These horses, known as Turkoman, are now considered extinct, but they undoubtedly left their genetic legacy behind. source: http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/the-ottomans-and-their-love-of-horses-65556

finally to the very earliest traceable ancestor who carried the large heart gene, Hautboy, one of the founding thoroughbred bloodlines in the mid-seventeenth century. source: http://www.horsenation.com/2012/05/21/horses-in-history-the-x-factor/

Sometime, belonging to the Ottoman Empire, the writer read where the English aristocracy where completely awe struck to the beauty, the strength, the size and the agility of these striking horses. Sound familiar?turkmen-3

imperial horses and stables at ayazaga at the end of the 19th century1811216726..jpg

Imperial horses

In the last TBL article A Star born – Alpha Centauri we highlighted surreal & timeless…. Man O’ War.

In far lesser degree, similar lines appeared to Masar (IRE).***(below)

How so, with such divergent individuals?

IT IS THE quality determinants of breed, of type, of genus . We call it Mating for Superiority

Ottoman Turk horses transported over time, to our subject pedigree Masar we all can agree the greats are not average and clearly differentiate from the rest.

Their genetic layers are quality dominant, not quantity dominant.

Further refer the greater tap-root maternal influences to Masar’s 5th dam & beyond.(Snow Bride (USA)⇒Blushing Groom ⇒Red God, Misaki (USA)/Hopespringeternal/Mr Prospector/Buckpasser.

***again refer Alpha Centauri – e.g.  compare (as above) via Rahy⇒Blushing Groom⇒Red God, Miswaki/Buckpasser A Star born – Alpha Centauri

One might say there is plenty of ‘space’ to these two, but essentially, are they?

The relevancy to think-on, is not just superior families sticking the glue, but more so following the familiar patterns, as nature supplies them, to establish your own selected individual is complemented to itself.

It is to know, not guess. Tables of Destiny: What’s my Line?

Bored by wintry-blues, TBL went to the local race meeting.

Strode into the main entrance and spotted horse no.6. Eye appeal was enough.

Took a bet & it was a good start to the day. Brought myself lunch (not so good there) and walked by the den of punters, and on through to the outside, where the small crowd of owners and connections socialized from the cold.

As pondering the who’s who of owner-partnership fraternity, where the parties eagerly hung to jockeys & trainers view of events…my friend said, ‘things don’t change’ and TBL chuckled knowingly.

‘If’, if, if you see… has the longest word in the human book and ‘if’ that horse wasn’t in a bad position, it would of been in-the-money, having made up its ground.

TBL remembered the ol’ Russian proverb: ‘hope is the mother of all fools’.

Next race and coming into the birdcage was a nervous mare. Surprised at the astonishingly elongated back pastern where the fetlock almost appeared ready to collapse beneath. Her awkwardness upset TBL’s idealism of the perfect specimen. (joke) How could it have a show?

IMG_20180714_150919.jpg

Galileo mare

WHAT(?)…effortlessly, she flew past the post –  a smooth gliding action which touched invisibly upon the turf.

The mare was by the great Galileo.

– yeah, TBL got this wrong.  It was a message to reboot and remind. Think & think again, what-is(?) well-bred correctness?

Ultimately, breeding is Get the Best. The best thoroughbred where its poetry is swiftness: a beautiful ‘natural’ easy momentum speed surging through veins of a classic thoroughbred animal.

The clues of careful breeding come upon a genotype pedigree which yields to deeper layering  – the familial ‘groups’ (in-breeding) as belonging to the individuals (as ‘race’-named): these hierarchal like-tiers which imperceptibly, preside through thoroughbred breeding.

It persists in generations what is potential – the aim to procure an above normal individual. A horse (in flesh) may be ugly, unlikeable, something physically incorrect etc, but never mind, the ‘X’ factor is gait, motion and speed.

This is what beauty of racing actually is – to watch and experience it. Shivers go down your spine.

By identifying (again & again) the KPI’s (of pedigrees) follow the family by viewing family-tables working structure. Family tables are like post-codes that profile exactly the genetic engine. Specifically, tap-root(s) maternal, its generational unfolding, upgrading to the present individual.

The family wheels keep going smooth, providing the KPI’s are substantially in place.

Opportunity lies in hidden details which populist breeding propaganda fails to inform detail, detail, detail.

It is to ‘conserve’ , source, support bloodlines. However from this ol’ TBL book of mine….family-table  ‘pairing’ of strains takes the ‘map’ but appropriately revise from the oldest bloodlines now barely visible (some are rare); they from the cultural/economic/political history of horses ‘lost & hidden in time’.

“Birkhahn began his stallion career at the Graditz National Stud in East Germany, where he was leading sire of winners five times. He was bought by Baroness Gabrielle von Oppenheim of the Schlenderhan Stud in 1960 and although he died five years later, he was leading West German sire of winners three times posthumously.” Peter Willet – The Classic Racehorse

birkhahn

“His sire Alchimist (family 9-h) won the Grosser Preis von Baden-Baden, Grosser Preis von Berlin, Grosser Preis von Kohn and was the leading sire in Germany. Unfortunately, when the Russians swept into Germany at the end of the war, Alchimist was slaughtered for food”. Ken McLean – Designing Speed in the Racehorse

And, as for the subject mare above, well what-do-you-know….Birkhahn merges onto the maternal tap-root line.
