With reflection of the 2026 Kentucky Derby contenders came this fair hunch for Golden Tempo. Golden Tempo ran an exceptional race. His victory was well deserved.

The overview was because of Bates Motel, sired by Sir Ivor, with reference postButterfing (ARG), where Bates Motel is also 2nd dam sire of US champion sire Curlin.

Sir Ivor – a sire of outstanding fillies namely Lady Capulet (winner of Irish 1,000 Guineas on her racecourse debut. His colts Bates Motel (USA) – Sir Tristram (IRE) great Broodmare sire, as is, his superior stayer sire Zabeel (NZ)
Absolute champion sire, 45 G1 winners of 140 SWs
Leading Sire in Australia 6 times 🏆
A leading sire in New Zealand

Golden Tempo @ 5×5 Sir Ivor by Sir Gaylord dam Somethingroyal. Should any aspire for the extraordinary horse, examine the dynamic blue-hen Somethingroyal, as sired by toughness, stamina in Princequillo. Naturally, and with Secretariat, to duplicate Somethingroyal 4x, these duplications furthering 10x Princequillo. Noting male-line, Smart Strike (CAN) is of the Princequillo distaff ex-4th dam, as is Quiet American (USA) by Fappiano, the dam-sire of Bernardini (USA), dam sire Golden Tempo. Sir Ivor – The Race calls – “Sir Ivor is well off the pace”…does the run sound familiar??

Princequillo’s career began in the same way as his sire’s, in that he was foaled in England, exported to America and began in humble surroundings and in his case claiming races. However, Princequillo progressed, claiming America’s two major stamina tests, the Saratoga Cup and Jockey Club Gold Cup, among his 12 wins, though they seemed to count for little when he retired to stud at the lowly fee of $250.00 and received only 17 visitors in his first season. When he was moved to Mr Bull Hancock he received mares of much better quality. Princequillo’s role as broodmare sire struck gold when his mares went mated with Nasrullah. Mahmoud by Blenheim by Blandford: the record breaking Derby winner and great sire in America who stamped his conformation – Almahmoud (Northern Dancer) – Mahmoudess (Promised Land) – Mr Trouble (Sir Ivor) – Boldness (Quiet American) – Ghazi (Lady Capulet)

Teddy male line >>>> Promised Land 6×7 – @Wise Exchange & Spectacular Bid. To further note: Promised Land has 5th dam Spearmint by Carbine by Musket. Nearco has 2nd dam Catnip by Spearmint by Carbine by Musket. Northern Dancer’s 5th dam by Chicle by Spearmint by Carbine by Musket.

It highlights the ‘unspoken stayer geno’ much-distinguished sire-line to Musket, the antipodean sire of many a Melbourne Cup winner and of V.R.C. Derby’s. He left remarkable horses – Necklace, Krupp, Trenton, Fullisade, Fusilier, Thunderbolt and Nordenfeldt. And then one month before his death was the greatest of all, Carbine (1885).

Nijinsky – 6x Musket (Trenton & Carbine + 5×7 Plucky Leige (a Teddy/Spearmint cross). (post – when transforming into, Nijinsky)

Musket as a three year old, he ran nine times, winning seven races, being second once and unplaced once. A number of these races were over two miles. At Ascot he carried 8st 12lb to victory in the Ascot Stakes, his weight being the highest ever borne successfully then by any horse in that race. As a four year old he ran twice, winning the Midland Counties Handicap, two mile and running second to Rosicrucian in the Alexandra Plate, three miles. He was then retired to stud but during the six years his services were offered to English breeders but was not in popular demand. The Waikato Agricultural Company (New Zealand) sent Mr Thomas Russell to England to look for a sire for coach and utility horses. On the death of Lord Peel, Musket was auctioned at Enfield and was secured by Mr Russell for 520 guineas. The will of Lord Glasgow however provided that none of his horses should be sold, so this obstacle was overcome by selling a lease of Musket for 99 years. Two years afterwards Musket’s son Petronel won the Two Thousand Guineas and English breeders began to realize that they had been too hasty to condemn one of the stoutest-hearted and best stayers of any age or country.
