Ka Ying Rising silences his biggest critic Zac Purton with return win. An interesting podcast with Ka Ying Rising jockey Zac Purton, (link Video | Facebook

The interviewer asks – ‘what is Ka Ying Rising like to ride and what is his difference’?

Purton’s reply pointed ‘Ka Ying Rising ‘glides‘ – whilst others gallop on turf ‘powerful’.

Ka Ying Rising ‘glides’

We may be watching for the first time a horse with the perfect mechanics of action, so easily does he cover the ground – comments from a NZ race fan.

When St Simon cantered the next morning his new owner and trainer where disgusted with his action. “He appeared to move more like a rabbit than a horse and could not apparently stride over a straw” wrote Portland in his memoirs. After an unbeaten racing career in which he was never extended, St Simon went on to become perhaps the single most import sire in Turf history. His trainer used to say that the extraordinary thing about St Simon was that distance never seemed to trouble him; he was as good at a furlong as he was at three miles. The trainer also detected a special quality in St Simon, saying that he was fuller of electricity than any horse he had known.

Is it the St Simon ‘glide’?

As was earlier profiled – KYR – the world champion sprinter; a New Zealand family bred for Gold finds Ka Ying Rising distaff dam Vickyjoy (NZ) by Sabaean by Blue Peter (Fairway).

Register of Thoroughbred Stallions of New Zealand – May 1960

Below, observe @1.55 hindquarters elastic ease, gait n’ stride.

Blue Peter @ 4x St Simon – son Sabaean, 4×5 Chaucer (St Simon – Canterbury Pilgrim from Moon Priestess, dam Selene by Chaucer. 5×4 Selene via Pharamond & at distaff – as seen to King Ying Rising profile > 5×4 Sir Tristram.

Sir Tristram’s 2nd dam is by My Babu (Djebel) + 4×3 Princequillo male to St Simon male line.

By #BT sire line, Djebel, a winner from 5 furlongs to 12,1/2 furlongs – 15 won. The descendant Ahonoora considered a sprinter.

– Ahonoora possessed blistering early speed and gained victory in the Spring Championship G2 and G3 King George Stakes over the minimum five furlongs. Ahonoora initially attracted little attention from breeders but managed to get top class runners over a wide variety of distances.

@ Ka Ying Rising profile – Ahonoora son Indian Ridge, a sprinter, captured the King’s Stand Stakes G2 and G3 Jersey Stakes where he turned out to be an exceptional sire of milers and sprinters. His sire Ahonoora however didn’t make a tremendous impression in Australia – his stamp less direct yet exerting notable influence through daughters Princess Tracy (Towkay) (see post American Eagle) & Park Appeal (Cape Cross) & Acclamation. (n.b. Also see Princess Tracy, been 3rd dam Shaft (AUS) broodmare sire of Australian sensation mare Sheza Alibi (Saxon Warrior) whom on-line, was a $10k purchase and has won 2026 Maybe Diva Stakes (3rd G1 title).

Ka Ying Rising further notes to ….His dam, Sex Appeal Buckpasser/Tom Fool/Menow, (Menow won the Futurity in WORLD RECORD TIME) – 3×4 War Admiral (MoW)- 3×4 La Troienne (Teddy).

  • 5×4 Sir Tristram (Selene distaff) – Sir Ivor
  • 5×4 Mr Prospector (distaff Frizette by Hamburg 4x Lexington – 3x Glencoe.

Ken McLean (Australian bloodstock author) stated: Generally speaking, mares from Domino’s line linked successfully with Broomstick and his sons. Winners bred on this cross seemed to inherit an extended stride.
(@TBL notes, Mr Prospector sire, Raise A Native, his dam Raise You with strains Domino & male @line Whisk Broom ii) Geisha dam of Native Dancer

(video above) – 3×4 Try My Best – an undefeated European Champion 2YO of 1977 winning 4 races from 5F to 7F including the G1 William Hill Dewhurst Stakes

  • @ trait – (8x) War Admiral wanted to dominate. A sire-line incomparable, critical strains factoring i) West Australian ii) Lexington iii) Glencoe iv) Spearmint

Chaucer (St Simon – Canterbury Pilgrim) responsible to the famed Phalaris & Chaucer cross as son Pharos, sire of Nearco. Also full-brother Fairway whom Tesio’s preference for his dam Nogara, however it accounts Fairway was fully booked with 40 mares. (side note: Fairway sired Fair Trial. His son Blue Peter today ‘diminishes’, he however, appears to be one powerful contributor for the reasons discussed above)
