IN memory lane…. of The New Zealand Horse of the Year 2006/07/08: Seachange (NZ) ex-Cape Cross (IRE) from Just Cruising (AUS) & so it was way back then, TBL said ‘for sure, another genuine champion on the rise’.
– yep folks, no hesitation even when Seachange with her bent knobbly knees, that almost waved to every doubtin’ Thomas on course before her 7 Group 1 wins.
TBL’s pedigree stance was then job, half-done, but with just enough at foot: ‘figuring’ his clues went entirely away from acceptable convention.
*Take note: #14c – Nearctic, St Paddy, Donatello, Cape Cross transiting. Each deriving from matriarchal ancestress Pretty Polly (IRE). http://www.pedigreequery.com/seachange. With TBL principle, take note where these strains impact – Cape Cross ‘Y’, XX – St Paddy, maternal broodmare sire ‘strain’ and Donatello matri-linear 7th remove. Rather than viewing separately, treat these as a collective band-width. *
TBL recalls Seachange pedigree reviews, – ‘The duplications that are present further back are nothing special and certainly nothing for pedigree gurus to wax on about.’
Seemly, unable to fathom the outcross pedigree beyond 5th remove, the devils in details are commonly 5th – 7th remove where many mainstream theorists shall point over the seemingly obvious: usually close in-breeding through to the somewhat expectation that all family relationships are replicated, repeat, closely upon dosage. Yes n’ No, at-times but….
Not near enough. As it was and still TBL tired of elusive articles: this one is related to that one and this full sister to….. if you get the drift. (Every sire & mating changes!)
Such conclusions are agreeable (of families) but vague. It does not reveal the ‘genie’ – what puts together great, superior thoroughbred breeding; the immeasurable called genetics.
The very timeworn, old, forgotten and discredited Australian Bruce Lowe figuring system: the Tesio design/principles, written & researched did not or could not reveal any exactness. Yet, it remarkably dawns what the elementary is.
(please do read Sir Patrick Hogan, his philosophy & comments – Thoroughbred Breeding: A MASTER OF TIME
It was transcribed… the Australian Bruce Lowe would walk into any breeders paddock and instantly recognize the family and the ‘type’. The little vintage book is worth reading patiently. But,….you shall need to further analyse to older origins by maternal.
Federico Tesio, though having written a few rare books never divulged his ‘secret’. The problem it seems was for others to solve. Still is.
One ‘Tesio’ factor overlooked where his darling wife Lydia, and business partner, whom sought the investor investment: she whom was secretary and also ‘took record’ of female lines (traceability) and they together must of realized unavoidable features which also had clues in civil war(s), history, culture and sociology demonstrating purposeful horse-breeding.
These shall ‘clue’ evolutionary courses before the Thoroughbred Registry & also within it, as thoroughbred breeding phrases underwent ‘fixing’.
Other sport-horse pedigree aficionados have also touched upon IT in a similar way.
TBL reckons it is not only ‘strain’ but type or recognizing ‘type’ within. Not bloodlines….but the Blood-Line-group, natural and primal to itself which favourably takes lead and where breeding was & folds through. That is helpful or unhelpful to the broodmare herself.
In so many varied ways, breeding is ecological development.
It can be appreciated social media does not inform: it creates ‘buzz’. The impression of laidback success, the blurred lines of racing reliability, the breeding morphed & re-classified as profitable commerciality and the gambling media network supports a delightful ignorance which continually intensifies and complicates and begs at lady-luck’s mercy.
Opportunity is infinite and finding its jig-saw pieces has rewards.
Albeit abstract, TBL distinguishes there an Expressive-Intelligent link remaining true to this day. It undoubtedly lifts pedigree to potential-marked. She is….funny little, Mannie Gray http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/MannieGray.html
Why? to keep the thoroughbred, as species, surviving ‘best’. Reference point, explore pre-American bloodstock breeding.
Essentially intricacy is to comprehend ‘pedigree’ as quantum waves carrying structure and moreover, the heightened dynamic velocity ‘within’ (genotype) upon the individual as phenotype.
Wordy, I know….but this may help. Moving on from Danehill
There is much to think on.
Here we transcribe from the then, very informative Australasian Thoroughbred Science Review – January 1987.
The thoroughbred is not a homogeneous breed; it comes in many shapes, and sizes and shows great variations in racing performance. The term “best racehorse” is not very meaningful, unless it is qualified by the type of horse. E.g. “best sprinter”, “best stayer” etc. Any further consideration of the racehorse requires a systematic subdivision into types. A scientific consideration demands that the type of racehorse can be specified. An ideal system would describe a race horse with respect to five qualities.
- Body type or confirmation
- Gait pattern or the way the horse gallops
- The distance the horse races over.
- The “style” of racing.
- The “ability” of the horse.
Knowledge folks – now that’s ya’ horse.
