3 yr old NZ gelding – Aegon (Sacred Falls (NZ) – Toss Up (NZ) ex- Zabeel ) 

4 wins from 4, winner of G1 NZ 2000 Guineas 1600m  + G 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas 1400m +Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m)

The prior article SACRED FALLS (NZ) potency  illustrated the young New Zealand sire. He sadly deceased from a liver condition in 2019.

Sacred Falls 3 year old gelded son Aegon, went purchased for $NZ150k at NZ Bloodstock Yearling Sales.

This yearling colt had captured the purchasers ‘eye’… athletic, nicely balanced where not overly large yet, the colt had some extra appeal.

– it appears, the gelded son of Sacred Falls (a dual Doncaster miler) shall emulate his sire’s racing abilities.

Postulating the breeding & genetics – the TBL view is to target ‘why/how’ a quality sire over dam meets genotype ‘advanced’ via and thru numerous individuals represented. Where these lend towards or backwards upon old bones, exemplary strains that do exist distinct, they the exalted ones not to be missed, only be ever more so appreciated.

– the integrity of the racehorse thoroughbred to its ancestral bones has paid more principle than could ever be believed. Simply – prototype equals the on-top, dominant.

These exalted ones are the decisive: they are forever, laser sharp, integral to a sport horse finest. Supreme – they are ‘short’ (i.e. no shuttle, no numbers ‘mass’)

First… the obvious Aegon factors to 5×5 Northern Dancer and 5×5 Mill Reef. Had (personally) always thought O’Reilly (sire of Sacred Falls) was of the chiefly, Princequillo conduit type – there via, Mill Reef. Plus, Sacred Falls 5th dam has grand-sire Princequillo.

The cross-nick applied O’Reilly over Zabeel mares has Princequillo through Sir Tristram. However back…deeper & collectively 9x’s Princequillo preside via Milan Mill, Round Table, Bourbon Prince, Somethingroyal and Monarchy.

What the above emanates… to draw another & how often is it (?) …the familial blue-hen collectively… and easily over looked.

Peruse once again Aegon’s pedigree Aegon Horse Pedigree (pedigreequery.com) for Knights Daughter/Feola – the female family 2f to identify her transmittance, the Conduit factor via, Tell Tell Horse Pedigree (pedigreequery.com) (notably… 2×3 Knights Daughter!!), Round Table and significantly, Tale of the Cat – infused via his daughter, grand-daughter & dam, Toss Up (NZ).

So what does the sire Sacred Falls expose?

No matter what…a sire in his purist design shall reproduce the best of himself.

He will slot into anything…but essentially is an up-grader across all the broodmare numbers given to him.

The breeding future is still IN his…

∞Zabeel: Sire of 46 G.1 winners…it is indeed exhausting to go into his far-reaching achievements: hail the great Zabeel, as conduit breeder and Australasian sire of sires.

Long years back, through a breeding forum, TBL commented to Zabeel’s impact of his female breeding to the double dosage – French sire Sunny Boy (Jock – Fille de Soleil ex- Solario) as assigned, ff 16-a.

The vital ‘yesteryear’ breeding that brings forth, many a quality pedigree.

…how favorable it is: when double maternal infusion (via sire) to the generations going forward, paves the gold.

While opinions today favour high-quality sires – to only maintain the ‘might’ of sire attributes, it follows where familial breeding principle complements and indicates a robust individual. The genetic parcel is firmly packed and ready to open.

It is saying of a Stallion: He, is the SON of his Dam – Zabeel’s sire, Sir Tristram via the regal Selene line, TBL prior discussed and reinforced her through Catalyst – the shimmer of SELENE to the deeper Conduit, of essential Difference – Part one

The sire line Sir Tristram – Sir Ivor – Sir Gaylord – Turn To – Royal Charger to Solario tags many a superior pedigree and notably where Habitat (Sir Gaylord) also forcibly stamps.

Whilst on Habitat, his broodmare sire Occupy, 2nd dam sire North Star and hello folks, here we are again – North Stars’s sire Sunstar sired by SUNDRIDGE.

Factoring Sundridge traits is phenomenal and TBL painstakingly cites over n’ over…that it ALL WORKS above speed, stamina towards a prototype of horse: the prototype combination of genotype/phenotype which delivers the extraordinaire.

Zabeel’s dam Lady Giselle, her 3rd dam by the great DERNA by Sunny Boy. His dam Fille de Soleil → Solario → SUNDRIDGE. The broodmare sire Sansovina (Sywnford etc.) he from the same female family 6-e, as belonging to Selene/Gondolette

Zabeel’s broodmare sire – Nureyev note 2x Hyperion/Selene which impacts so strongly to the very special elite dam, Special: Sadlers Wells. (n.b. Special…. keys to upcoming, exciting sire Tarzino (NZ) which TBL shall explore further & update Back to the Future with Tarzino (NZ)

However, moving on 2020…..the conduit impact. Take note when as broodmare sire the New Zealand’s Waikato stud sire Ocean Park (Thorn Park – ) 4 year old gelding, Kolding (NZ) a G1 winner Epsom Handicap 1600m and the mare Tofane, a G.3 winner.

And Catalyst (as above) at the Oaks stud, Darci Brahma (ex-Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel).

Chase along mares by Lonhro (Octagonal/Zabeel – Shadea same maternal as Catalyst) spinning those conduit factors – 64% winners to runners as broodmare sire.

Raising a glass to the future, there will be many more generations & Zabeel influences to appreciate and admire upon the New Zealand and Australian bloodstock industry.

A name to watch ….a 2 classy year old colt Castelvecchio –  Dundeel (NZ) ex- St Therese from Dehere (USA) winning in breathtaking fashion the (Australia) 2019 Inglis Millennium 1200m sprint.

To the sire of Castelvecchio – there comes a ‘soft spot’ as known formerly ‘It’s a Dundeel’ to his New Zealand and Australia racing days.

It was then, a strong hunch for TBL, that he is a very smart stallion. From the Sadlers Wells/Zabeel cross (to be exact the female family link (f.f. 5-h) via Special (USA).

Yes, its those tremendous blood lines which add that ol’ tough honest quality via Dundeel’s dam Luskin Star (AUS)/Star Kingdom (IRE), Wilkes/Court Martial, Right Royal (FR), Honeyway (GB), Djebel/Tourbillon/Ksar.

Of…Castelvecchio’s dam, St Therese ( also dam of Maid of Heaven (Smart Missile (AUS), 2018 G.1 winner) herself, a modest stakes winning mare, holds the genetics goodies via 4th dam, Flash in the Pan (AUS) inbred to 2x Sunstar by Sundridge.

This is THE ‘where’…. superior champions arise, to evolve, as TBL explores a-definition-to-traits which transcend breeding beyond ordinary.

What sights Castelvecchio’s raw competitive dominance on track, one just kinda hunches that its The One. The one distinctive trait which sits atop of the speed-sprint genetic pyramid.

In much earlier years, TBL read all the old, great stuff and this one liner stuck – “all things return to purity, its origin”.

We can thank Winx for epitomizing so much more than what normally meets pedigree.
