"Did somebody say The Everest? Come and take my money!" – @Milburn_Creek's John Muir

MAGIC TIME could be bound for the world's richest turf race after she wins her second G1 of the season in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) for @Grahame_Begg and Mick Dee! 🪄pic.twitter.com/Gd6GHWtoxf

What a pedigree for mare, Magic Time (Hellbent – Time Awaits from Nicconi).

Star Kingdom 7S x 8S x 7D x 6D (Royal Artist (I am Invincible), Kaoru Star ) – Bletchingly 5sx5d + 6 strains of Olympia has the dominate @25 strains Hyperion, dam Selene f.f. 6-e. Hyperion thru distaff, 7th dam as grand sire + 4 strains to Chanteclair (AUS) The f.f. 6e also appears through Big Game & Mossborough to appreciate all, #Haplotype L3a1b.

Hyperion = the lazy little colt standing at 15.1 1/2hh with a huge popularity stemming from his lack of size. Hyperion’s trainer George Lambton was regularly suffering from bad-health and Lord Derby determined to retire Lambton post Hyperion’s popular Derby win as the smallest Derby winner since Little Wonder in 1840. The new trainer completely underrated Hyperion’s need for and his capacity for hard work and was half fit when going to Ascot for the Gold Cup where Hyperion ran third, with his last race running second. Champion sire for six times, siring 7 Classic winners, his greatest influence as a sire of broodmares inclusive: Alycidon, Carrozza, Citation, Parthia, Ribocco and Ribero. Hyperion was known for a delightful and lovable character. (Julian Wilson’s 100 Greatest Racehorses)

the ND son, Danzig – 5x5x4x5. Danzig = 28 strains St Simon – 7 strains Carbine – 2 Hyperion + Selene’s son Pharamond. @ Carbine/Spearmint appreciate where its Line infuses, the inheritance mitDNA @ Catnip, Mother Goose, Petition, Steady Aim. 10 strains Sainfoin.

Two more Haplotypes which are significant to the Magic Time pedigree are i) L2b1a, upon mare’s distaff family 3-g alongside family 1-W (Perfume, Lavendula family) – it belonging to Alycidon, (Danzero) & My Babu (Crested Wave) & ii) L1a, family 2f seen to Marsolve, 2x Round Table, Exbury, Atan male line of Kris. The L1a haplotype is akin to/of family 9c.

It is the Danzig and Bletchingly its families 7-a make for outstanding strains,, a familiar Australian cross. The Haplotype has L3a1a.

Having long considered Haplotype L4 (family 2h, Martha Lynn, distinguishes a peak trait quality to superior genotype pedigree, it determines or offers the genomic evaluation is affecting a desirable racing phenotype, noting the ‘pattern’ was already remarkable.

She (Martha Lynn) appears as the dam of Voltigeur (who through Vedette and Galopin is the putative great-grandsire of St. Simon), of Voltigeur’s sister Volley (grand-dam of Lord Clifden, who is the male-line of Hyperion), and of Eulogy, the dam of Clemence, who, in addition to being dam of Bend Or, is also grand-dam of the great racehorse, and important sire Carbine – credit https://issuu.com/international_thoroughbred/docs/itb_august2021/s/12865199

A core set of genes, G6PC2, HDAC9, KTN1, MYLK2, NTM, SLC16A1 and SYNDIG1, with central roles in muscle, metabolism, and neurobiology, are key drivers of the racing phenotype. https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-022-04206-x

How far behind PRIDE OF JENNI would WINX have been at different stages throughout her final start in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes? 💨

Have a look below 👇🏼 pic.twitter.com/M0sfjxvd8B

— World Horse Racing (@WHR) April 14, 2024

A stamina quality and free action has magic and one wonders how such extraordinary ability is catalysed through breeding.

The 6 yo bay mare Pride of Jenni by Pride of Dubai from Sancerre (NZ) by O’Reilly where Pride of Jenni & Winx share Street Cry & Success Express to their pedigrees.

Pride of Jenni assigned #Haplotype G2, female family 9-h, from a Princequillo daughter How.

Broadly – the Princequillo/Nasrullah/Hyperion is long classic sire compelling. Princequillo bred daughters for stamina, Nasrullah’s speed, Hyperion action complementary to overall genetic phenotype. Hyperion, (+ Bosworth, Sansovino, Sir Tristram ) through @ female family 6-e has #Haplotype L3a1b where science places necessity to racehorse phenotype, been with the particular marker genes. The families belonging to 9-C (Mahmoud, Fair Trial, Aristophanes) reveal #Haplotype L1 and its Haplotype shall also include family 2-f viz, Knights Daughter 3rd dam of Tell, sire of Pompei Court, sire of the wonderful Courtza, dam of O’Reilly. Knights Daughter the dam of sire, Round Table by Princequillo as seen to Artaius, 2nd dam sire to Pride of Dubai.

Since Winx & Zenyatta’s racing days, one can always be fully accepting to great sire Street Cry and it goes also with applause to the influence of Troy. Troy was a big, powerfully built bay & Troy’s ancestress Morel also belonging to that of Princequillo female-family 1-b #Haplotype N2a. The Haplotype duly the Norwegian Fjord pony and what can be deduced genetically, to its tough, durability character. Indeed, that sounds like Princequillo!

A top-class staying two-year old, Troy reached his peak in the weeks leading up to the 200th Derby. With an awkward run at Tattenham Corner, Troy remarkably won by seven lengths. Troy only had 4 seasons as a stallion, dying at age 7 from a perforated intestine. He sired Helen Street and the rest (as they say) is breeding history. (ie, Street Cry & Shamardal by Giants Causeway.

Factoring in a Haplotype and family belonging to 16-a, its long genetic durability sits deep n’ true: Sir Gallahad, & Bull Dog (sired by Teddy of the male-line Orme (Angelica, daughter of St Angela, dam of St. Simon) goes from dam Plucky Leige by Spearmint by Carbine) Sir Gallahad’s/Bull Dog sire of Bull Lea forth appearance to Mr Prospector, Nijinsky, Hold your Peace, Tom Fool, Success Express.

A recapitulation: – TBL Readers might take history, the pedigree & observations to Harkaway, the Irish Eclipse & King of the Curragh as appearing in pedigrees St Angela and Papyrus, Princequillo’s b/m sire. The rarity, the phenomena Harkaway ‘ran any distance, carry any weight and distance horses‘ where enthusiasts of the day paid extraordinary sums to see, as they did believe, one of the wonders of the world. Yet the old Harkaway blood went forgotten and (weirdly) despised to & in favour The Baron (Birdcatcher) bloodline. (reference 1865 – R. Copperthwaite)

(n.b. notes on the Harkaway strain – Simonath-Papyrus female family 16-f, the Australian bred gelding CRISP carried under 12 stone and though just beaten by Red Rum in 5-strides, it was Crisp’s front-running performance at the 1973 Aintree Grand National helped to lower the course record from 9 minutes, 20.4 seconds to 9 minutes 1.90 seconds.) Crisp carried top weight of 12st 7lb and won in brilliant style by 15 lengths at a two-mile handicap chase at Wincanton. At Cheltenham, on a dead-track, he won the two-mile Champion Chaae by twenty five lengths. Crisp pedigree. ) article – https://www.telegraph.co.uk/racing/2021/03/12/story-crisp-whose-heroic-defeat-73-grand-national-helped-tee/

It may seem two female strains alone to any pedigree might seem minor but when you see whom it influences, the thinking changes. Those influential are: –

i) Helen Street, re 4th dam sire Worden from Tara’s daughter Sans Taras.

ii) Zabeel. 4th dam sire Norseman, dam Tara

The great dam Tara where we discussed her fine presence last blog and for your interest its another G1 win (ATC Queen of the Turf) just last weekend for Zougotcha.

The undeniable fact remains that the remarkable victory of Pride of Jenni can be attributed to some extraordinaire influence few racehorses can claim.

What a mare Pride of Jenni . Here she is at two hours old . Congratulations to ⁦@TrelawneyStudNZ⁩ who bred her pic.twitter.com/ZWyfzISnci

Carbine, El Roca, Felstead, Musket

Its been a few years since reviewing New Zealand sire pedigree El Roca.

His 3yo filly Krementz (by El Roca) from dam Cashenti ex-Conatus (Danehill), pedigree.

Firstly, let’s never forget the history built to the Australian and New Zealand breeding scene. So many exceptional influences like Pipe of Peace tail-male Hurry On, Wilkes & Star Kingdom, & earlier the Australasian sire of sires, *Musket.

Musket put the fledging New Zealand thoroughbred industry on the map in one stroke. Beforehand Musket was a virtual unknown. He had been bought in England in the late 1870’s, shipped to New Zealand for a career as a sire of carriage horses. In his first season he served only three stud book mares. His son Martini-Henry won the Victoria Derby and the Melbourne in his first two starts. Australians began scrambling for progeny of Musket. Musket sired a stream of top class horses, that climaxed less than a month before his death in 1885 by the birth of his champion son Carbine, a magnificent bay who galloped the Australian turf like a giant.         (November Gold – Max Lambert)

Old Genetic power bring forth… Krementz is a 1400m winner. 4 starts – 2 metro win, 1 – 2nd place. Note her conformation below.

Haplotype L4 for stamina, speed and weight. It is evident a L4 Haplotype geno complements an extraordinary phenotype ability. With few family exceptions, L4 belongs to the Family 2 but one special ancestress dam calls it big, Martha Lynn, f.f. 2-h and holds to the distaff family of Carbine.

Carbine shot through the field like a thunderbolt.    1890 Melbourne Cup report.

Further to this L 4 Haplotype (female family 2-r) has *Miss Kate’s daughter Catherine Wheel, a grand-daughter of *Musket. More so, f.f.2-r famed to Phar Lap (5×5 Musket) & a distaff, 3xAustralian Horse of the Year Sunline.

Krementz workings @ Pedigree 👇👇👇

her 5th dam Singalong (f.f.2-r) has MUSKET – 👉👉5S x 6D x 6D (f.f.3-h)
(female family 2r distaff @ Blazing Saddles (AUS) a son of **Todman, the 3rd dam sire Krementz

*Miss Kate (f.f.2-r) was dam of Perkin Warbeck (NZ) and he appears to the sire El Roca @ 9th dam.

3×3 Danehill @ 9 strains Carbine, noting Danzig’s 3rd dam ***Felstead is a tail-male Carbine/Musket. Noting...Danehill’s distaff hails from Mother Goose (Chicle) by Spearmint by Carbine (+ noted to Northern Dancer & Halo).

-***Felstead notes to El Roca via Millionaire’s 4th dam & as is, Bletchingly 3rd dam by Felstead.

Felstead was the 1928 Derby winner and his daughter Rockfel was a 1938 Oaks winner. Her breeding fame & son Rockefella (Hyperion) produced Rafha (4×4 Rockefella) dam of Invincible Spirit (IRE). Rockefella is 2nd dam grand-sire to Sunline (commented above)

Krementz 5th dam by Star Kingdom’s son Shifnal (dam Oceana) at 6 strains Star Kingdom, additionally > 6sx5D **Todman from same dam Oceana.

  Oceana is f.f. 1-u and takes co-affinity to Selene, f.f. 6-e aka 15x Hyperion and 3x Big Game @ L3a1b Haplotype. (n.b. bloodlines.net indicates studbook errors)

The Star Kingdom influence through sons, grand-sons and daughter descendants was Australasian breed-shaper. Star Kingdom goes enormous and it is Todman, Biscay son Bletchingly, Marscay, Zephyr Bay marks superior classic quality. (Check blog Ripcord (AUS) – run me like a racehorse & dam-side G1 winner – RIFF ROCKET by American Pharoah

8dx7d Pipe of Peace (the #GA male-line, tail-male Hurry On). Pipe of Peace hails f.f. 22-d, 3rd dam Infra Red, has distaff-line same Mill Reef, the sire of Millionaire and sire of El Roca 2nd dam Mill Rani. The family 22-d has L3a1a Hapotype (n.b. Mill Rani’s daughter Millrich is dam of Redzel – 2017/2018 Everest winner and dam of sire Danerich).

  • 8x7x7 Relic (via, Bletchingly, Soviet Star, Rory’s Jester, the #GA male line, US bred strains to Man O’War – essential prototype. It is the superior, classic blue-print explosion ancestral and nucleus male lines #GA, as is #BT upon Rubiton.

Krementz’s 8th dam by Pherozshah – the half-brother to Mahmoud f.f. 9-c, empress Mumtaz Mahal ). The Aga Khan bred sire Pherozshah came to New Zealand in 1944.

  • Clock the Mahmoud daughters thru Northern Dancer, Danehill, His Majesty, 2nd dam sire Roan Rocket with Pherozshah + Venture (Relic) b/m sire of Soviet Star
  • Mumtaz Mahal pouring through e.g. Nasrullah, Abernant, Prince Taj, Lucky Bag, Tudor Minstrel, Fair Trial, Royal Charger, Badruddin where her far-reaching genetics are pure Powerhouse. And cleverly, diverse ‘Mutiple’ across i.e. subtle female affinities factoring
  • the family number 9-c has L1a Haplotype

And so, as the Musket/Carbine/Spearmint era went by – their breeding further exploded that goes beyond anything else: the female contributor and influential Plucky Liege where sired by Spearmint cannot ever go genetically annulled. She is the dam of Sir Gallahad, full brother Bull Dog, half-brothers Admiral Drake and Bois Roussel.

@ Krementz pedigree, Plucky Liege influences are seen to Buckpasser, Admirals Voyage, Nijinsky, Royal Academy, Only for Life/Millionaire/El Roca, Habitat, Blazing Saddles (AUS)

(n.b. Plucky Leige is extremely influential to numerous US Derby winners like White Abarrio – to catch, White Abarrio

Indeed further classic factors course to Krementz with Wilkes (7d x 6d). Wilkes was a three times champion Australian sire and notably four times champion sire of 2 yr olds. Also of Krementz pedigree, Soviet Star (USA) – his bloodlines may be better remembered by the name of New Zealand bred Starcraft – Australian 3yo champion and sire of Star Witness.

waste not genetics – they can come hot

Carbine might never have left Australia but for a bank crash which forced Wallace, a wealthy grazier and racehorse owner and breeder, to sell up. Purchased by the Duke of Portland, Carbine was shipped to England to the Duke’s Welbeck Abbey Stud, where he stood alongside St Simon. Several thousand people flocked to the dockside in Melbourne to say farewell when Carbine was loaded on to the steamer for England.  (November Gold – Max Lambert)

🐴 Musket daughter Ante Diem was sent to Argentina in 1884.

The ANTE DIEM family has accounted for at least 19 Argentine Classic winners, among them 1931 Triple Crown winner MINERAL, as well as many other winners of top races in both Argentina and Brazil. Ante Diem include genetic giant sire, Penny Post (Embrujo).
