4 yo bay gelding, Nadal – Xtravagant (NZ) – Moshki (AUS) by Moshe (AUS). https://www.pedigreequery.com/nadal18

Broodmare sire Moshe- the half brother of sire All Too Hard (Casino Prince) & Black Caviar

Currently, I am re-reading Ken McLean – Quest for a Classic Winner. It is a gem of book in breeding stock technique. Ken’s analysis takes a very thorough discourse, deepest of lines and all still on-point today.

Nadal by Xtravagant has quite the thinking of Ken McLean!

Australasian pedigrees continue to drive and maintain consistent durability. Strains in a product continue to captivate as went developed from the stud stallion. It is clear a balanced diversity progresses, wave-cycles in generations through their mares yet for the situation of short numbers continuing.

🐴 Nadal places 4×5 Sir Tristram. Its interesting to note that doyens, Harold Hampton/Clive Harper placed the Sir Tristram ‘Type’ in multiple lines to Hermit. https://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/Hermit.html. Having not exercised that very interesting remark- we note the Hermit son Tristan had fiery temperament – as did Sir Tristram. Tristan influences >> Sywnford (Nearctic) >> Donatello & Big Game by Bahram.

As it was stated by himself, Sir Patrick Hogan (Cambridge Stud New Zealand) double-checked every strain (its class) concluding that Sir Tristram was a sire who would improve bloodlines (see thoroughbred Breeding: A MASTER OF TIME

Nadal’s sire Xtravagant https://www.newhavenpark.com.au/stallions/xtravagant/ a distaff family in ancestress Charm, her grand-dam is Enigma (GB) also found to Beppo’s dam Pitti broodmare sire of Gay Crusader, broodmare sire of in 6x Djebel to Nadal’s pedigree. Whilst we never know authenticity of Stud book origins, it is to expose Charm/Enigma and retain the strong influence within today’s pool of enigmatic lines.

Charm finds herself to Blakeney 7Dx9d, she the dam of Captivation to male line Chanteur (FR) and daughter Fascination, **Stefan the Great’s grand-dam (more below)

The major historical significance to her Tree family @ William the Third (St Simon) & Stefan the Great (The Tetrarch). At writing at the time, it wasn’t fully realized their emphatic influence to world-class mares, Black Caviar and Winx. We found stallion statistics when William the Third made his first appearance as making the top 20 in 1918 as a brood mare sire. He certainly features where noting sire of Dutch Mary appearing to 4x Donatello >> 4th dam sire (@ Nadal), Mironton (GB), influences El Quahira (NZ), Solderini/Desert Sun, mare Bespoken (by Vain) & dam of Bel Esprit. Donatatello sire of 9×9 Crepollo and has additional influence with Bahram to son 3x Big Game

note, William the Third influences to Discovery by Display @ Native Dancer + 2x Felstead (Spion Kop)

In 1920, William the Third is 2nd top ranked stallion (Gallinule no.1) – 1922 he occupies no. 1 spot and remains to the top 10 ranked stallions till 1932, top 20 1933! That is quite a statistical profile amongst Chaucer, Sunstar, Polymelus and more…

1939 **Stefan the Great occupies no.1. (n.b. Hermit was running no.1 European sire 1880 – 1886). Stefan the Great b/m sire of Blue Peter (GB) sire of Sabaean to daughter Sun Priestess (NZ), 4th dam of Xtravagant, family 2-e.

It may then be exercised – what influences will contribute to a specific phenotype.

With a little (off course) preamble… consider upon breeding pools, the impacts of WWII. Its insurmountable breeding upheaval(s) took place effectively upon population growth & progressed dissipation & extinction. Its the hard, ugly fact that acts of War(s) exercised active expulsion to european Studbooks where it also had occured much earlier to america’s earliest family bloodstock. These are not just missing pools, but a phenotype left wandering in obscurity.

The examination of a certain and superior Type remains…

Observing sale footage above, its quite observable to a quality phenotype in Nadal.

@ 1200m – He run’s a slashing time.

The exquisite intricate Nadal pedigree weaves multiple X’s complex.

6x5x6 world class sprinter Vain – Wilkes (his female line the elite-exceptional Tara, inclusive Norseman ex-Zabeel) – 4x Court Martial – 7x Fair Trial

@ Byerley Turk – Blakeney – Centaine – 3x My Babu- 6x Djebel + Cagire (FR) by Tourbillon > @ Zeditatve (Aus) + Finglas by Brueleur b/m sire Vieux Manoir sire of Val de Loire (FR), sire of Valdena, 2nd dam Lady Giselle dam of Zabeel.

@ The Tetrarch The Tetrarch sire of Mumtaz Mahal >> 12x Nasrullah, The Tetrarch sire of 2x Tetratema, grand sire of 3x King Salmon , Kurdistan (Tehran) ++ Pherozshah (FR) 3rd dam sire El Quahira from dam, Pheroz Jewel has 3x The Tetrarch.

Super Elite influences –

@ ^Princequillo & his b/m sire @ Papyrus thru to Sir Tristram. Do note Todman (Star Kingdom) @ Papyrus (see Ken McLean’s quote below)

Vatout – the dam Vaya by Beppo.

@Pentire @ 4th dam sire Grandmaster (IRE) to Vatout + @ Zabeel / Vatout sire of Vatellour 5th dam sire, Lady Giselle. Migoli by Boris Roussel (FR) by Vatout (FR) – 3rd dam sire Desert Sun.

& goes another funny quirk is that Nadal’s female ancestor Fine Lady (Aus) is by Darebin (AUS) and so take a look at his daughter as the broodmare sire in finest bred US sire, so named Commando (USA). He is male line descending to Stymie’s daughter @ 4×7 What a Treat to Be My Guest, grand-sire of Xtravagant & distaff influence in Esperanto (USA).

I (Ken McLean) always admired ^Princequillo (Prince Rose-Cosquilloa by Papyrus, son of Tracery) as the most fundamental genotype for upgrading a female line. Princequillo was a genetic phenoenon and ideally correct in conformation. (I) cannot understand why the Star Kingdom strain has not been used by American breeders to cross with the Princequillo strain, nor why the British and French are slow in realising the existing potential between Star Kingdom’s genotype with that of Prince Chevalier. Stallions who carry more than one strain of Papyrus should have long-term influence on the breed. (Ken McLean). So right Ken!!
