We may be watching for the first time a horse with the perfect mechanics of action, so easily does he cover the ground – comments from a NZ race fan.
When St Simon cantered the next morning his new owner and trainer where disgusted with his action. “He appeared to move more like a rabbit than a horse and could not apparently stride over a straw” wrote Portland in his memoirs. – Ahonoora possessed blistering early speed and gained victory in the Spring Championship G2 and G3 King George Stakes over the minimum five furlongs. Ahonoora initially attracted little attention from breeders but managed to get top class runners over a wide variety of distances.
@ Ka Ying Rising profile – Ahonoora son Indian Ridge, a sprinter, captured the King’s Stand Stakes G2 and G3 Jersey Stakes where he turned out to be an exceptional sire of milers and sprinters. His sire Ahonoora however didn’t make a tremendous impression in Australia – his stamp less direct yet exerting notable influence through daughters Princess Tracy (Towkay) (see post American Eagle) & Park Appeal (Cape Cross) & Acclamation.
