Frankel’s pedigree had struck ‘new’ gold. (Galileo – Danehill) great stamina over speed, the European-type power cross.
The cross produced Teofilo – Highland Reel – Japan – Circus Maximus.
The demand for Frankel colts @ 2026 Tattersalls sale remained strong. Frankel Colt Tops Second Day of Tattersalls October Book 1 as Strong Trade Continues – Tattersalls. Continual to his end-time, progenies reflect Frankel’s physical attribute and will be interesting to see if the Frankel generational male-line by descendancy remains long.
Frankel embodies excellence; his genetics culminate to a remarkable equine inheritance. As a youngster characterized by unpredictability, Henry Cecil and rider Shane Fetherstonhaugh adeptly nurtured him towards patient composure, resulting the unbeaten, 14 wins from 14 starts.
As an international sire, the unexpected happened: Unravelling the mystery of Galileo’s ‘failure’ in the Southern Hemisphere | Topics: Horse Racing, Danehill, Galileo, Teofilo, The United States (horse), Northern Meteor, Coolmore, Adelaide | Thoroughbred Racing Commentary. The reverse cross ie Via Sistina IRE) – (Fastnet Rock /Danehill cross Galileo) the mare’s mature racing career culminating 2024-2025 Australian Horse of the Year.
Typically, bloodlines grow and demise grows causal. It was topical to Tesio’s studies of great Derby lines to the continuation of fresh blood and ‘class’.
The once, chefs-de-race classic lines – what ‘gave’ tremendous impact, today are treated commercial remote and or with little effect.
Effectively however is the strength: phenotype and genotype constitution and these came from powerful crosses added to its deep courses, to, and with the determinable bones.

‘Classic’ Blandford was an entire ‘brand’ of his own.
Blandford. 3-time Leading Sire. He produced four Derby winners. BAHRAM, sold to Argentina. BLENHEIM (exported to US, the rest is history) and TRIGO. Namely, sire of the great French champion BRANTOME. Windsor Lad – Badruddin – exported to Argentina, a genetic powerhouse – Umidwar – Bokbul (fated disappearance WWII). His Grace & Blue Skies, Bulandshar sent to N.Z. in 1934
4th on the Winning Sires List in 1942-43, 1943-44 and 1946-47. As broodmare sire Chanteur (FR). Big Game, son of Bahram. By male line, Loliondo (FR) – Val de Loir (FR) – Exbury (FR) – Vadamos by Monsun et al – Idomeneo (GB)/Alycidon – Norseman (FR) from the notable Teddy daughter Tara.
Whilst Frankel’s front profile – @ 5×5 Buckpasser – (go reminded Tom Fool/Menow/Plucky Liege) – @4×5 Natalma, the pedigree expansion details to Blandford’s contribution. A classy individual stamps likeness, thence Sadlers Wells/Thong – 5×3 Blandford.
@Frankel’s dam Kind, female distaff
– Blandford son Brantome, son Caldrium (FR) @ 2nd dam, Stage Door Johnny (USA).
– 5th dam Nasira by Persian Gulf by Bahram/Blandford.
@ Galileo, Sadlers Wells/Thong – 5×3 Blandford – ‘speed’ multiples @ Blenheim (Blandford) descendants via Mahmoud, Nasrullah, Natalma. Bahram – dam sire of Expresso (6×4 Blandford), 3rd dam sire Galileo.
Breeding across, appraises where another great type also earns desirable traits. Here, Blandford ( Simple, Complex & Remarkable- continues to the Blandford line) upon his bloodline cross to another bloodline had resulted in an extraordinary potency.
Ormonde – Orby – Orme, the male line thru time…(to Teddy)
Ormonde held undisputed sway over the most talented generation in racing history, yet he was generally compared unfavourably with St Simon, two years his senior, when discussion turned to the greatest horse of the 19th Century. Ormonde had great devouring strides. Ormonde looking as though he was enjoying himself in an exercise gallop on those following to duels between champions at racing pace throughout the finest mile race in history. Racing against Minting, it was as though the pair were staging an exhibition gallop, dictating the terms, showing why the phrase ‘poetry in motion’ was appropriate to thoroughbreds at full stretch. His final record read 16 wins over three years. Ormonde was the King.

Speed was inherited from Orme and son Orby. Orme is out of a sister to St Simon . Tesio formula Havresac – Tracery dam Topiary = Ribot.
Apart from Brazil (Teddy line, 1! ) & New Zealand’s Rich Hill Stud standing Vadamos (FR), the hollowed out male line representation of *Teddy (Ajax/Flying Fox/Orme) or Blandford dissolved.
It is however to those Inbred lines: dam Thong (5×3 Blandford) her dam, Reine-de-Course mare Rough Shod sired by Gold Bridge @ 3×3 Orby @ distaff, Sadler Wells sire of Galileo, what paved genetics to ‘upgrade’.
- Orme’s daughter Topiary, dam of Tracery (USA) sire of Papyrus, dam sire of Advocate, dam sire of Forli – 2nd dam Sadlers Wells. Prince Chevalier, brood mare sire Abbot’s Speed ➡️➡️Tracery (Orme). Prince Chevalier sire of Promised Lady inclusive to, Big Game by Bahram/Blandford, ➡️Lombard 2nd dam sire Galileo.
As above, so below: Frankel’s distaff, as mentioned above, the cross in-Type fixes again @ Nasira (GB) by Persian Gulf/Bahram/Blandford to Sir Cosmo/The Boss/Orby.
Frankel’s broodmare sire Danehill, the speed sire, through Almahmoud by Mahmoud by Blenheim/Blandford.
Frankel’s 2nd dam sire Rainbow Quest, – 4x Blandford, Blenheim, Wild Risk, Wild Violet & Umidwar.
The presence and influence of i) Blandford and ii) Orme crossing was truly one of exceptionality. It created….
Frankel, thoroughbred gold
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Bahram raced five times as a two-year-old and won every time. He won the 1935 Triple Crown (2,000 Guineas, Derby, and the St Leger), unbeaten through his career and no horse really extended him. His trainer, Frank Butters declared that he never really knew how good the horse was because he was so lazy on the gallops and did no more on the racecourse than he needed to win his races. Although the Aga Khan never wished to sell Bahram, wartime Britain forced a decision, and he sold to America as were Derby winners Blenheim and Mahmoud to the USA. Six years later he was sold to Argentina. Bahram knew how good he was and a quirk of his was to lean against the stable walls, with legs crossed, looking disdainfully around him at lesser beings. Progeny of Bahram; son Bashir went to India but died as sire in his 1st season. Big Game champion sire of two-year-olds. Senegal (ARG) – exceptional record of 12 wins from 16 starts and multiple major stakes victories. Senegal sired on Antar (VEN) -the horse was recognised as the Champion Two-Year-Old of 1964, having won three important juvenile races (3×4 Blandford). Turkhan (GB) – 1939 : won Coventry Stakes
1940 : won St. Leger, Irish Derby @ Blandford, 5dx5d Orme.
Persian Gulf was winner of 4 races including the Coronation Cup, 1 1/2 miles and Fen Ditton Stakes, 2m. Persian Gulf ranked seven times among the top 10 English sires.
